Gambatek was founded by Dirk Devisch, a veteran of the high tech industry who spent more than 13 years in Japan and Asia Pacific working in the EDA, IP and semiconductor industry.
Dirk began his career as a VLSI design engineer with EDC/Mentor Graphics, a Philips Mentor Graphics joint venture. During this time he designed various ASIC’s for wireless communications applications such as DECT cordless phone, NICAM stereo TV Sound system, teleconferencing system, etc.. Dirk was responsible for the whole design starting at algorithm development down to gate level implementation. This design work was done using state of the art DSP design tools developed by Philips and Mentor Graphics.
Having had some design experience he decided to move into the commercial field in 1992 and took an assignment in Japan and Asia Pacific to promote the design tools he had used himself into the Japanese and Asia Pacific markets. Based out of the Mentor Graphics Japan office he started the DSP design tools business line for Mentor Graphics in Japan and Asia Pacific. Starting at zero grew this business to over 1.5 MUS$ in 1 year time for which he was awarded the Chairman’s Club award.
In 1996 he moved to Singapore, continued the DSP tools sales effort but also took on the effort to promote the front end simulation and logic synthesis tools effort for the Asia Pacific region.
In 1997, with the Asian crisis hitting home hard he moved back to Japan and focused now in the emerging intellectual property (IP) business, and help start this new business line for Mentor Graphics both in Japan and Asia Pacific.
In 1999 he took the role of business development director for Japan and Asia Pacific with Frontier Design and help promote one of the first C based behavioral synthesis tools in the market. He set up a network of reps and distributions and he successfully introduced the product into the major companies in the region such as Sony, Matsushita and Samsung Electronics.
In 2000 he took an assignment with Cadence Design Systems Japan and became sales director for the simulation and verification products of Cadence in Japan.
After almost 10 years in Japan he left for Taipei (Taiwan) in 2002 to take a position with ARC International as regional sales director for Asia Pacific. He successfully launched ARC’s USB semiconductor IP and RISC processor IP products into the Taiwanese and Korean markets and closed deals with some of the major companies in the region. In 2006 he took a role with Philips Applied Technologies and proved to be essential in launching the Coolflux DSP processor into the Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean markets. After moving back to Europe he founded Gambatek BVBA by which he make his experience available to the hightech electronics and semiconductor community in general. More details on the engagements through Gambatek can be found on the reference pages
Dirk also gained extensive experience in the Internet of Things (IoT), mobile communications market through work with some of the leading IoT hardware providers (Option Wireless, leading mobile network operators in M2M in EMEA KPN M2M and Aspider M2M
Over the years Dirk gained extensive international sales and business development skills in the high tech sector. Since a lot of engagements were complex projects with multiple parties involved he also gained quite a bit of project management expertise
